Spend the day discovering Fes, Morocco’s spiritual and cultural capital. Visit the ancient Fes el-Bali (Old Medina), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its narrow alleys, bustling souks, and historic madrasas like Al Quaraouiyine University and Bou Inania Madrasa. Explore the Chouara Tanneries, royal palaces, and the Jewish Quarter (Mellah). Overnight in your riad.
Depart from Fes, traveling through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane, nicknamed the “Switzerland of Morocco,” and visit the cedar forest in Azrou to see Barbary macaques. Cross the Ziz Valley, famous for its date palms, and arrive in Merzouga by evening.
