Itinerary 3 Days Desert Tour from Errachidia to Merzouga & Fes

Day 1: Errachidia to Merzouga – Journey Through the Ziz Valley and Camel Trek into the Sahara

Your desert adventure begins with a warm welcome in Errachidia. Where your private driver-guide meets you for a scenic journey toward the legendary Sahara Desert. Traveling through the spectacular Ziz Valley, an immense palm oasis dotted with traditional Berber villages. With stops at panoramic viewpoints to admire the breathtaking landscapes and ancient ksours.

Passing through Erfoud, a town famous for its fossils and desert craftsmanship. You will feel the landscape slowly transforming into golden, arid scenery. Upon arrival in Merzouga, the impressive dunes of Erg Chebbi appear on the horizon, creating a magical first impression of the Sahara. In the late afternoon, you mount your camel for a peaceful trek across the rolling sand dunes. Enjoying the changing colors of the desert sky as the sun sets. You arrive at your traditional desert camp, where you enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner. Relax by the campfire with live Berber drumming, and sleep under an endless blanket of stars in your comfortable nomadic-style tent.

Day 2: Merzouga Desert Discovery – Nomads, Khamlia Music, and Authentic Saharan Life

After waking up to the peaceful silence of the desert and enjoying breakfast either at camp or in a nearby hotel, you spend the day discovering the hidden treasures of the Merzouga region. This immersive experience includes a 4×4 excursion across the dunes to visit a local nomad family, where you learn about their traditional lifestyle, hospitality, and survival techniques in this extreme environment. You continue to Khamlia village, a small Saharan community known for its spiritual Gnawa music, where you are welcomed with rhythmic drumming and songs that reflect the African roots of the region.

The tour also takes you to ancient fossil sites and through the palm groves around the desert’s edge, offering insight into the geological and agricultural history of the area. You will have time to explore the lively town of Rissani, with its traditional souk, donkey parking area, and authentic local atmosphere that feels untouched by modern tourism. In the afternoon, you can relax on the dunes, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, or try optional activities such as sandboarding or quad biking. As the sun sets once again over the dunes, you return to your camp or hotel for dinner and another magical night in the heart of the Sahara.

Day 3: Merzouga to Fes – Ziz Valley Panoramas and the Middle Atlas Mountains

On your final day, you wake up early to witness the unforgettable sunrise over the Sahara dunes, a moment when the desert glows in soft gold and pink tones. After breakfast, you leave Merzouga and begin your journey toward Fes, traveling through a diverse range of landscapes that highlight Morocco’s natural beauty. You once again follow the course of the lush Ziz Valley, stopping at scenic viewpoints where the contrast between the green palm groves and the surrounding rocky desert creates stunning photo opportunities.

The road continues through Midelt, a peaceful mountain town known for its apple orchards. You then climb into the Middle Atlas Mountains, where cooler air and cedar forests create a refreshing change of scenery. Near Azrou, you may spot the famous Barbary macaque monkeys in their natural habitat. A short stop in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco,” allows you to admire its alpine-style architecture and clean, quiet streets. You arrive in Fes in the late afternoon or early evening. Your driver drops you off at your riad or hotel, marking the end of a rich and memorable desert journey.
